Our rental agreement, like any other, is a detailed document designed to protect both the customer and ourselves from various unforeseen events. Below is a simplified look at what's included.

  • We will give you a quick orientation on the basics of your van before you head out, at this time, you'll be able to ask us about any questions or concerns.

  • Please keep in mind that some of the vans (specifically the Westfalias) are becoming fairly old these days. We keep the vans in tip-top shape, but the occasional problem, while rare, can still arise.

  • The driving position is located right up front, in contrast to most vehicles, the majority of the van is located behind you, meaning you will have to take corners slightly wide to avoid damage to the van, and/or curbing the wheels. Please keep this in mind!

  • It's important to understand the older vans can have a hard time in very hot weather, or going through grades and mountain passes. Please keep an eye on the gauges, expect a maximum speed of 65mph or so, and a bit lower up hills. Also, remember to give the van periodic breaks during long travel days or at high elevation.

  • Van pick up is by reservation. You are required to let us know when you want to arrive to take your van out.

  • Please adhere to the drop off rules; return the vehicles before 1 pm on the final day of rental to avoid a $200 late charge.

  • Highway One Rentals is not responsible for interrupted travel plans following van drop off, i.e. missed flights or rides.

  • All drivers must be at least 25 years of age.

  • If you are involved in a collision, you are required to contact us immediately for assistance.

  • Renters must purchase insurance from our partner, Outdoorsy. The policy provides full coverage for collision and $1M in liability. The deductible is a $1,500 maximum. There is a 10% charge for this insurance. Credit card policies and your personal car insurance policy will not provide the coverage for a vintage camper van rental.

  • Your rental is secured upon reservation with a 50% deposit of the total rental cost. Full payment is required 30 days before the reserved pickup date of your rental.

  • Upon cancellations, we will return 50% of the total rental cost to you if cancelation is done 30 days prior to your pick up date. After that, your rental may only be rescheduled for a different date, and absolutely no refunds will be issued.

  • A $2000 security deposit is required before rental. Any damage, unreasonable use, or excessive cleaning to be dealt with will result in the cost of repairs being deducted from your deposit. The security deposit is usually released back to you within 1-3 days after returning the vehicle. The security charge is automatically charged to the credit card used for reservations 3 days prior to pick up.

  • The odd time, the exact van you reserved for rental may not be available. This is a rare occurrence but it does happen. We will do our best to accommodate you by arranging another van in the original's place.

  • We assure all our vehicles are top quality and will get you on your way to having a great experience.

  • We reserve the right to cancel a reservation at any time if we deem conditions unsafe, or renters ineligible for safe vehicle operation.

  • We keep all of our vehicles in pristine condition, ready for road trips and adventures, but breakdowns can still happen, however unlikely they are.

  • Highway One Rentals will replace or immediately repair your van if a breakdown occurs

  • If your vehicle does break down, we have a network of mechanics ready to service and fix these vans. We will direct you to where to take your rental for repairs.

  • Roadside assistance is included with your rental. Just keep in mind, you must be on an accessible road to receive this service.

  • Highway One Rentals reserves the right to not repair or replace any items or equipment included in your rental that break during the rental period.

  • Any breakdowns, damage, or losses that occur outside of the areas of travel we permit will be the renter's full responsibility.

  • Our vans are best suited to explore Arizona.

  • We offer one-way rentals, but charges apply.

  • NO burning man.

  • There is no strict mileage limit, but we do recommend no more than 125 miles per day. If you plan on doing up to 300 miles in a SINGLE day, it is highly recommended that you stop periodically to give the van a rest.

  • Travel through the Sierra Nevada mountains is strictly prohibited during winter months.

  • Absolutely NO off-roading.

  • Mexico is not allowed at any given time under any circumstances.

  • A contract is required to be signed containing terms like the ones listed above and will be in binding effect throughout the entire rental period.

  • Highway One Rentals IS NOT responsible for any personal harm caused to you or your possessions during the rental period.

  • Pets are allowed upon approval and a pet fee will be added.
